High- technology is advancing and developing, and we need the petroleum industry to generate various kinds of products. Therefore, we have increased the amount of oil that is being used. However, many people do not know the effects that oil production has on ecology, especially oil spills. Not only it influences birds, fish, and other aquatic life, but it will also impact human life and future generations. In this paper, I will discuss various solutions to oil spill and oil pollution issues, such as making laws to prevent oil pollution, getting more education on the problems of oil, and developing organizations to protect the environment.

Oil pollution in Russia
Russia is one of many countries that has serious oil pollution problems. According to BBC NEWS, more migratory and sea birds died this year than in any other years. The major cause for their deaths is oil polluted water. Although some people may think that this issue is not important, but I personally believe that if we don’t come up with solutions to this problem, it will influence the quality of human life. This paper will discuss the cause of oil pollution and it’s impact on animal and human life. In addition, I will present some possible solutions to the prevention of oil spills and pollution.

According to Bray (2004), Russia has many maritime transport of oil. Every day tankers transport oil to many places. The problem is that if this kind of ship, such as a tanker, leaks, it will taint the water supply and can afflict those who drink water in Russia. For example, there is a case about an oil spill that caused water pollution from a ship in Alaska. In 1989, there was a tanker that was transporting a huge amount of oil and turned over in the ocean near Alaska. This may be because the tanker was too old and had a leak, causing some oil spill to spill, or the tanker may have hit a rock that made a hole. Because of "with the current demand for Russian oil, and the obvious need for increased maritime transport systems" (para.3), then Russia should improve the quality of their maritime transport system first. Pipeline leakage, war, and oil industry drill oil are also reasons that cause oil pollution in water. According to EIA.doe.gov, the most serious problem is in Chechnya. EIA says that in Chechnya, there is “an estimated 30 million barrels of oil [that] have leaked into the ground from the region's black market oil industry" (2004, para.9). Moreover, another article states that oil contaminated water caused a huge number of migratory birds to die in the Baltic. According to resident Anatoliy Kramskoy, who has been living on the Baltic coast for 30 years, he said that "this is the first time I have come across such an event"(Naumov, 2005, para.3).

Oil spill influences water quality around the beach area in Russia. Every year, oil can be found at the coast. Oil pollution not only causes birds to die, but it is also harmful for marine life, humans, and the environment. This type of problem will damage lakes, rivers, and wildlife, pollute drinking water, destroy natural resources, increase global warming climate, and influence the food chain and human food resources (Environmental Protection Agency, 1999, p.5). In the Baltic case, the huge number of birds that died reminds us that oil polluted water will be harmful for our lives in the future. There are several reasons for why oil spills will cause so many birds died. First, the birds may not be able to adapt to the heavily polluted environment in Russia. They may have come from an environment that is very clean, and suddenly coming in contact with the pollution in Russia will cause a group of them to die together. Second, eating toxic fish and aquatic grass will also result in death of the birds.

Russia may not know that oil spills will cause so many environmental problems and affect the ecosystem. However, the huge number of birds that died may also mean that it is a threat to human life. Many species also drink water every day and eat fish as their food resource. Therefore, maybe we also have to worry about the toxic element that comes with groundwater and food resources. The Russian government doesn’t have any plans action to solve this problem because Russia is a developing country. They think that the economy is more important than the environment today, because it costs a lot of money to clean oil spills, the Russian government would rather to spend their money to advance their economy. However, the government should protect their residents and animals. If the Russian government does not pay attention to this crisis, they will have to pay more expenses later in the future, a lot of people getting strange diseases or dying suddenly and needing more money to recover the environment like other developed countries. Therefore, we need to find solutions to solve this problem.

I think there are three possible solutions to solving oil pollution. First, the Russian government should make some laws and preventing oil pollution and strictly enforcing them. For this situation, I think the government should have more environmental knowledge. They not only have to think about how oil pollution can influence the environment and animals, but also how in can impact themselves. If they know this crisis is bad for their future, they will do something to solve this problem and not just care about their economy. The government may then regulate the amount of oil that tankers are allowing to transport or the amount of tankers they allow to transport oil. For example, they can build a building by the side of the sea to control the amount of oil and tankers transported. They also can punish the tanker which over the amount of oil. Next, increasing the fines for persons or companies who dump oil into the sea is also a good idea. In this way, the government can both solve the oil pollution problems and earn money. Finally, this money can be used to improve maritime transport systems. The government can increase budgets for maritime transport companies to buy new tankers or fix their old tankers. This will improve the oil spill problem during transportation of oil to other countries, especially since “at current levels, the rate of oil pollution incidents occurring in EU waters is considered unacceptably high” (Bray, para.4).

Second, not only should the government have more environmental knowledge, the residents of Russia should also be more educated about the environment. For example, they can have an ecological class in their primary, second, and high school that teaches their children more about environment. They also can make a TV commercial to inform the public about the problems of oil pollution. Another way is to build a billboard to advertise about oil pollution. These options can inform their residents more about oil pollution, environmental knowledge and how oil pollution influences their lives.

Third, Russia should find ways of protecting migratory birds. After people know more about the problems of oil pollution, maybe some people will want to protect migratory birds. For example, the international ecological organization Greenpeace Russia that is an organization defends the environment and ecosystem in Russia. An organization can be developed that gets money to clean the environment or to help sick animals. This will also help the government to solve the oil pollution problem. Moreover, maybe some people will also want to make a stronger organization that protests against people who will hurt animals. For example, this type of organization may have parades to protest people who cause oil pollutions that results in animals dying. According to Mite, the environmental group sued LUK Oil Company who drilled oil in a sensitive area near the Baltic Sea, because the company ignored ecological concerns. The international ecological organization Greenpeace Russia in Russia is worried that LUKoil plans to drill more oil from the Baltic (2002, para. 1, 10, 13). This is a good example that makes an organization to protect our environment. Sue them, give them a penalty or publish their bad behaviors that are organization can enforce.

In conclusion, tanker spills contaminated many area in Russia. This impairs oceanic life, animals, human, and the environment. This is an issue that we cannot ignore. The effects will hurt our species in the future. Therefore, we need solutions to solve this issue and prevent Russia’s harm to the environment and the ecological system. Some possible solutions may be making laws to prevent oil pollution, getting more education on the problems of oil pollution, and developing organizations to protect the environment.

Reference:
Naumov, A. (Aleksandr, 2005, para. l ) This is a largest birds died collectively have ever been.( para. 3) Almost of them are migratory birds. The correspondent explains it is difficult to protect birds to live in water with oil.( para. 5) However, investigators cannot find out the truly source where is the oil from. If they find out the chief offender, Russia government will punish huge money of fines.
In my opinion, I think there maybe some possible reasons that why birds died. The result is there are a huge number of birds died is that means it also threaten human live. This is a potential environment intact. Human also drink water every day. Maybe we have to worry about that the toxic element comes with groundwater. First it killed all the birds, next time it will threaten the lives of our human beings. It's kind of parable that inspires people’s notice. This story is talking about how a bird tries to remind the dazed monks to stick to their religion and help them get out of the confusion. Once upon a time, there were several monks who lived in a temple. They concentrated on prayer and study meditation. One day, a young monk from the city came to the temple; he told them how wonderful the city was when he was there. The monks started to be confused, and they were excited to go to the city. During the turn for the last five monks to leave the temple, a golden bird flew above their head and gave them the strings. The monks held the strings and the bird brought them to the city. The monks realized the city wasn't as good as they thought when they saw it, and it was full of hate, misery, and violence. After they went back to the temple, the golden bird circled three times overhead and flew away. Finally, the monks realized it was the Buddha, and it come to help them find the pathway to true happiness.

Golden bird is good. It gives a warning to monks. A young monk is not good, not bad. Some people may say the young monk is bad, because he told several monks how wonderful the city was and upset their peaceful lives. But some people may say several monks cannot withstand temptation; it's not the young monk's fault. I think the young monk does not have a bad heart. He's not purposely upset their peaceful lives. Anyway, the story is principally tells us don’t let people change your mind easily. You have to be your self and be more confident. Finally, it's a very good and edifying to children.

Moon Cake Festival

Moon Cake Festival

The origin of the moon cake festival is a combination of two legends. The first one ties back to the origin of life. In the beginning there was said to be 12 suns in the sky. Because of this, the world was too hot and people’s lives were miserable. The king, in order to save his people, shot down eleven of the twelve suns in the sky. After being reduced down to one sun, the world was perfect and lives were better. As a reward for his deed, he was given a potion of immortality, but his wife took the potion before he could take it, and she floated to the moon. So now, Chinese believe that there is a beautiful woman that lives on the moon and on the night of the festival she can be seen.

Mandy, Taiwan

^^

Hi:every one
